When people started talking, Alan Buck knew they were onto something.
The member of the Coyote Creek Golf Club board of directors says they recently revamped the club’s dining experience. The bar and grill has a new menu, manager and name – Coyote Creek Bar and Grill.
“We wanted to get back to more of a bar-and-grill type of approach, (with) both menu and customers,” Buck says. “We felt like we were trying to be wide-ranging in our appeal. The higher-end dinners weren’t attracting enough of a crowd.”
Among the new offerings is a Friday night prime rib special. It features an 8-ounce ($10.95) or 12-ounce ($13.95) cut and includes a baked potato and salad. There are homemade soups daily and a variety of sandwiches.
The grill, 4935 Hillegas Road, is open to nonmembers. Hours are 2 to 9 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m. to close (at dark) Tuesday through Sunday. To make reservations, call 755-2639.
Tea, antiques shop turns 1
Sweet Violets Tea & Antiques, 503 W. Wayne St., is celebrating its one-year anniversary this week.

Outdoor grill added
There will be more than sets and spikes being served up when the SportONE Parkview Fieldhouse, 3946 Ice Way, hosts a sand volleyball tournament next month.
The facility, which is home to Jimmy’s Grill, recently added an outdoor patio and grill, according to spokesman Benjamin Henry, and will be firing it up during future events.
“It’s been a big hit so far,” he says. “We’ve had several sand volleyball tournaments and cooked out for each one.”
The menu will be similar to Jimmy’s Grill, which offers salads, wraps, wings and sliders among other items.
Scotty’s Brewhouse is still planning to come to Fort Wayne, but the Getz Road location is awaiting financing.
Scott Wise, president and CEO, says the Indianapolis chain is looking for investors for 40 percent of the project – $400,000. The remaining $600,000 is in place.
“We are talking to several prospects right now,” Wise says. “We had hoped the timing would have been sooner and this would have been complete; but our opening of the Mishawaka location in April slowed down our processes.”
There is no timeline for the project.

Specials are subject to change, but recent offerings include chicken or tuna salad on a croissant, pasta salad and an apple from Toscani Pizzeria for $6.99; pulled BBQ chicken sandwich with chips and iced tea or iced coffee at Downtown Grind for $6.25; and $1 off a drink with purchase of protein bomb or half-and-half lunch at Pembroke Bakery & Cafe.
•The owners and staff of Baan Thai Restaurant, 4634 Coldwater Road, will be taking their annual vacation from July 1 to July 22. The restaurant will be closed during that time and will reopen July 23.
