Near drowning at Bixler Lake

A 5-year-old boy nearly drowned Saturday at Bixler Lake in Noble County, according to Indiana conservation officers.

The boy and his family were at a beach in Bixler Lake Park in Kendallville when he went missing shortly before 5 p.m. Almost immediately, he was found floating in about 5 feet of water, conservation officers said.

He was unresponsive, and lifeguards and medics performed CPR on him. He was taken to Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville and later flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne where he was recovering Saturday night, conservation officers said.

The boy’s name was not released.
