Tornado confirmed in Van Wert County

The National Weather Service in northern Indiana on Thursday confirmed that a weak tornado was on the ground in Willshire, Ohio, on Wednesday evening.

The tornado, classified as an EF0, touched down on the south side of the village at the intersection of Green and Williams streets, the weather service said, and then continued three blocks east to Ohio 49.

One witness told officials that the twister came down in his yard shortly before 11:30 p.m., snapped off two large trees and then moved on.

A few homes have major roof and window damage, and a freestanding garage rolled off its foundation.

The weather service said the tornado was on the ground for less than two minutes and its maximum wind speed was estimated at 80 mph.
