Patron slain outside Legion bar

A man died early Sunday morning after he was found in a parking lot at a neighborhood bar suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

At 3:11 a.m., police found the victim when they responded a call at the American Legion, 705 E. Lewis St., near South Hanna streets, said Christopher Felton, a Fort Wayne Police Department spokesman.

Felton said officers tended to the man until medics arrived and transported him to a local hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead.

Police have not released his name.

Felton said that according to to witnesses, the victim had been in an argument earlier in the evening. He later left the bar and was shot while standing next to a vehicle, Felton said. It is not known whether the shooter was involved in the argument.

Police had no suspect or vehicle information available Sunday, and no one had been arrested. Detectives and crime scene personnel searched the area throughout the early morning, Felton said.
