Indiana picked up its second commitment of the 2014 class Saturday, when former Avon offensive lineman DeAndre Herron gave his pledge to the Hoosiers.
This news broke yesterday, and we got the news out on Twitter, but some other coverage commitments kept me from writing about it in this space until now.
Herron goes to Iowa Western Community College and was a Louisville signee in his senior year at Avon. The Hoosiers made a late push for Herron that year, but came up short.
But Herron headed to IWCC because of some academic issues that prevented him from joining the Cardinals. That gave IU more time to work on the 6-foot-5, 325-pound prospect.
Herron is the No. 59 JUCO recruit and No. 11 offensive tackle in the 2014 class according to the 247Composite, a ranking generated by 247Sports.com from several recruiting services. He could play for the Hoosiers at guard or tackle.
