Bayer advances to 1,500 final

Former Leo standout Andy Bayer, the defending 1,500-meter champion for Indiana, advanced into the finals of the 1,500 Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Bayer cruised to second place in his heat with a time of 3:43.00. He led the first two laps before slipping to fourth with 500 meters to go. He then powered his way into second place in the final 50 meters.

Indiana's Taja Moore earned All-America honors in the women's discus with a career-beset toss of 179-10. The seventh-place finish gave her All-America status.

Bayer will race in Saturday's 5:31 ET finals.
