Gee, was it something he said?

Like we didn't know this was coming.

Ohio State's Gordon Gee (The Barney Fife of College Presidents) has announced that he's turning in his badge, his gun and his single bullet. And doing so with all the usual hokum that attends such announcements.

Why's he abruptly decided to step down now?

Why, it has very little to do with the stir he caused by saying you can't trust those "damn Catholics", calling former Wisconsin football coach Bret Bielema a "thug" and trashing other schools' academic records. Why, no, sir. How could you even think that?

Turns out (according to Gordon) he was planning on "retiring" all along. Yes, he was. And if the timing looks highly suspicious ... well, he's just that kinda guy. One day he's a highly successful college president; the next, it's time to go fishing.

And if you buy that, he's got some nice oceanfront property in North Dakota he'd like to unload. For cheap.
