We're going to have a lot on the hiring of Gary Graham as the Komets' coach in Wednesday's paper, so buy a copy.
I just talked to former Komets coach Al Sims, and he's very pleased that Graham, his former assistant coach, got the job.
"If you had asked me a year ago if Gary would be in the ECHL as a head coach so soon, I would have probably said no. But after what he did in Pensacola, it's impressive," Sims said. "He was going against good coaches there like Kevin Kaminski and he was able to come out on top, and I think he's ready.
"He works extremely hard and that's how he's gotten to today, and he loves the game. He watches every NHL game on TV, loves his Bruins and tries to learn whenever he watches a game, whether it's SPHL or NHL. He's constantly learning. You've got to constantly change and come up with new things, and he does."
I asked Graham is he had any idea yet who his assistant coach would be and he said, via text message, "Our focus for the next couple months will be recruitment," so I guess that vaguely means no.
