Hammons receives World University Games training camp invite

Purdue men's basketball player A.J. Hammons is among the 29 players invited to training camp for the 2013 USA Basketball Men's World University Games Team training camp.

Hammons, a sophomore, will compete for a chance to represent the U.S. in Kazan, Russia, from July 6 to 17. The training camp will take place later this month in Colorado Springs, Colo., home to the Olympic Training Center.

Boilermakers coach Matt Painter is a member of the selection committee for the World University Games invites, but the Big Ten All-Freshman team selection did plenty in his own right to earn a tryout. He was the team's second-leading scorer as a freshman and led the conference in blocks per game during Big Ten play.

Indiana's Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell and Will Sheehey, as well as Notre Dame players Eric Atkins and Jerain Grant, also received invitations to the camp. Seven Big Ten players were among the invitees.
