Mother, 2 sons die in Indianapolis fire

INDIANAPOLIS – Authorities say an 86-year-old woman and her two sons died in a fire that heavily damaged their Indianapolis home.

The victims were identified as Hazel Wood and two of her three sons, 59-year-old Michael Wood and 54-year-old Jeffrey Wood.

Investigators all three were asleep when the fire started about 4:45 a.m. Sunday.

The Indianapolis Star reports (http://indy.st/19fRh1e ) that a third son, Mark Wood, survived and was treated at the scene. Wood called 911 and reported the fire and said the others were still trapped inside the house.

Investigators said the fire was accidental. Relative Amanda Wood told the Star that family member believe someone left a lit cigarette behind before heading to bed.

Damage to the home is estimated at $175,000.
