Museums free for military this summer

Several area museums will be among 2,000 across the country to offer free admission for active-duty military personnel and their families this summer beginning Memorial Day.

The National Endowment for the Arts, in cooperation with the Department of Defense and Blue Star Families, a nonprofit for military families, is supporting the annual initiative, which provides free admission to participating museums through Labor Day.

The Fort Wayne Museum of Art is participating, as well as many museums in Indianapolis.

While many of the participating museums are fine arts museums, science museums and 75 children’s museums are also participating. Families of deployed members of the Armed Services are eligible for free admission as well.

Allen County

•Fort Wayne Museum of Art, 311 E. Main St.; 422-6467; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday

DeKalb County
