Silver Hawks on a roll early, lead TinCaps 5-1 in 3rd

Fort Wayne starter Ruben Mejia allowed eight hits in three innings, and South Bend has a 5-1 lead heading into the fourth inning.

TinCaps manager Jose Valentin pulled Mejia after 2 2/3 innings. He allowed five earned runs and five of the hits of him came in a three-run third inning. Mejia also walked two batters and struck out two.

Matthew Chabot stepped in for Mejia and ended the top of the third with a strikeout.

Fort Wayne generated some offense after 16 innings without a run. A single by Gabriel Quintana broke the drought, which started during a doubleheader Thursday and went into two innings today.

Silver Hawks starter Jesse Darrah has allowed one unearned run and three hits. He has three strikeouts and five popouts to his credit, as well.
