Two Purdue softball players earned regional honors, including a former Bishop Dwenger standout.
Sophomore second baseman Ashley Burkhardt, who played for the Saints, and junior outfielder Andie Varsho were named to the NFCA/Louisville Slugger All-Mideast Region first team on Thursday.
Burkhardt hit .320 for the Boilermakers and led the team with 40 runs, and she had 10 extra-base hits, recording seven doubles, two triples and a home run.
Burkhardt also had a team-high 16-game hitting streak, which was the second longest in program history.
Varsho, who was also an All-Big Ten first-team selection, led the team in batting average (.415), hits (71), RBI (39), doubles (11) and home runs (39).
Burkhardt and Varsho are eligible for NFCA/Louisville Slugger All-America honors, which will be announced during the NCAA Women's College World Series at the end of May.
