Fallen moped rider killed as he lay in road

Kosciusko County police are investigating the death of a Warsaw man who was hit by a Jeep after his moped crashed west of Pierceton.

The county crash investigation team said Brandon D. Hollon, 23, was traveling west in the 5000 block of Pierceton Road shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of the moped. A witness at a nearby home called 911 and went out to check on him.

Meanwhile, Lance W. Lucas, 23, of Mentone, swerved his 1999 Jeep Cherokee to avoid Hollon’s moped and inadvertently ran over Hollon in the road, the crash team said in a statement.

Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson ruled the death was the result of massive blunt-force trauma.

The crash remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and the crash investigation team.
