74-year-old beaten with frying pan

Police have arrested a man accused of attacking a 74-year-old man with a meat tenderizer and a frying pan last week during a robbery.

Ben Macon III, 43, was charged Monday with felony counts of battery, robbery and battery by body waste.

According to court papers, the victim told police he gave Macon, a friend of a friend, a ride to a Drexel Street address the afternoon of May 12. The next morning, Macon came to his apartment in the 7900 block of Decatur Road and demanded money, police said.

The two wrestled in the kitchen, and Macon hit the man several times with a wooden meat tenderizer and a frying pan. Macon took $26 from the man’s pocket and fled the apartment, court papers said.

The attack left the victim with bumps on his head and a small gash, police said.

The day after, police arrested Macon, and when an officer took him from the back seat of a squad car, he spit in the officer’s face, court papers said.

Macon, of the 5800 block of Bunt Road, was being held Monday evening at the Allen County Jail in lieu of $22,500 bail.
