Spartans move into tourney title game

– The top-seeded Manchester baseball team knocked off two-time defending national champion Marietta 10-5 Friday to advance to the finals of the NCAA Division III Regional at Art Nehr Field in Terre Haute.

Manchester (38-5-1) plays the winner of Thomas More/Washington and Jefferson at 3:30 p.m. today.

Norwell product Bryce Murphy went 4 for 5 with three runs scored and three doubles game for the Spartans. He also picked up the save by giving up only two hits and no runs over the final 3 2/3 innings.

Also for Manchester, Bishop Dwenger graduate Corey Marchant was 2 for 4 with four RBI and two runs scored, and Trevor Kimm was 3 for 4 with three RBI and two doubles.

The Spartans scored five times in the third to take a 6-1 lead before the Panthers (31-13) closed to 7-5 in the fifth. Manchester added a run in the seventh and two in the eighth.

Dylan Padgett (8-1) gave up five runs (three earned) in 5 1/3 innings.

INDIANA 7, OHIO STATE 2: The Hoosiers beat the host Buckeyes in 10 innings to clinch at least a share of its first Big Ten title since 1949. Indiana (39-13, 16-7 Big Ten) can get the outright title and the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten tournament with a win today.
