Fort Wayne starter Max Fried threw six innings of scoreless ball, and a two-run home run by Jeremy Baltz in the bottom of the sixth has the TinCaps up 3-0 on Bowling Green.
The TinCaps No. 2 pitcher gave up four hits and no runs while striking out four. He got a big assist from center fielder Alberth Martinez in the top of the fifth, as well.
Martinez fielded a grounder up the middle and gunned out a runner at home on a one-hop throw to save a run and preserve a scoreless game to that time.
Then, Baltz came up with a runner on and one out in the bottom of the sixth and pulled a pitch to right.
Hot Rods starter Blake Snell had pitched a shutout until then, but allowed five hits. He ended his outing with six hits, two earned runs, two walks and four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
After Snell's departure, Rodney Daal greeted reliever Marcus Jensen with a two-out double that scored a run and made it 3-0.
Leonel Campos will come on for Fried in relief to start the seventh inning.
