Suspect Tasered in courthouse escape attempt

A handcuffed man ran down a hallway in the Allen County Courthouse on Monday, and an Allen County police officer used his Taser to take him into custody, the county sheriff's department said today.

Austin R. Otolski, 22, of Fort Wayne was charged with felony escape. He was being held at the county jail without bond, the sheriff's department said in a statement.

Police said Otolski had appeared in Allen Superior Court on another charge, and was remanded into custody. A county police officer handcuffed him and led him out of the courtroom, they said.

As they were waiting to get on an elevator, the statement said, Otolski started to run down the hallway.

The officer told him to stop running, the statement said, but he ignored the command, leading to the Taser deployment.

Otolski fell to the floor and was taken into custody without incident.
