Bayer gets historic double title

Senior distance runner Andy Bayer, a Leo graduate, won the 1,500- and 5,000-meter titles at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Sunday.

In doing so, he made history.

Bayer became the third athlete to win both the Big Ten 1,500 and 5,000 titles in one season. Bob Kennedy and Jim Spivey, both former Hoosiers, were the only two athletes to accomplish the feat.

Kennedy last pulled off the double 21 years ago.
