Carroll splits pair in unique doubleheader

The Carroll baseball team went 1-1 Wednesday in a doubleheader – of sorts.

The Chargers beat visiting Homestead 8-7 in the completion of a suspended game then lost to Bishop Dwenger 11-9 in a nonconference game.

Against the Spartans, Mason Neuman’s RBI single brought home Drue Tranquill with the winning run for Carroll, which improved to 5-0 in the NHC.

The game was tied at 7 in the top of the 11th Tuesday when the game was suspended after the lights went out. Ross Koble, Matt Meihls and Conner Hansen each had two hits for the Chargers, who had 10 hits.

Homestead got 12 hits, led by four players with two – Kyle Mohsenzadeh, Matt Volz, Luke Landrigan and Josh Thompson.

In the second game, Dwenger’s Ben Kosiarek and Skyler Noll each knocked in three runs against the host Chargers.

NORTHROP 5, SNIDER 4: The Bruins scored a run in the top of the eighth for the road win.

Northrop led 2-1 but scored twice in the top of the seventh to take a 4-1 advantage.

Snider got three runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

HUNTINGTON NORTH 7, LOGANSPORT 5: The visiting Vikings scored four runs in the top of the eighth for the win.

Huntington North’s Drew Schnitz had three RBI.

NORWELL 3, HERITAGE 2: The host Knights scored a run in the fifth and sixth innings to rally past the Patriots.

Heritage led 2-0 in the first inning.

Jonah Patten got the win for Norwell, going the distance with four hits allowed and 10 strikeouts.


CARROLL 162, BELLMONT 174: The Chargers improved to 4-1 in the NHC with the win at Cross Creek.

Bellmont’s Chase Ellsworth was the medalist with a 1-over 37, while Carroll got a 38 from Garrett Leeper.


CHURUBUSCO 6, EASTSIDE 3: The visiting Eagles won despite getting outhit 8-4. Kellary Crabil knocked in two runs for Churubusco.


BISHOP LUERS 4, CONCORDIA 1: The visiting Knights clinched their second straight SAC title with the win. Luers improved to 6-0 in the SAC and holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over Bishop Dwenger.
