Ex-Purdue player gets high-school coaching job

FRANKFORT, Ind. – Former Purdue basketball player Ryne Smith has been hired as the boys basketball coach at Clinton Prairie High School.

The district’s school board voted unanimously Wednesday to approve hiring the 23-year-old Smith just a year after he last played for the Boilermakers.

Smith tells the Journal & Courier (http://on.jconline.com/11mEVUw ) he kept each of Purdue coach Matt Painter’s practice plans from this past season, when he was a student assistant coach for the Boilermakers.

Smith played at Purdue from 2008 to 2012 and was a regular starter his final two seasons, ending his career fifth in Boilermaker history in three-point field goal percentage.

He’s taking over a Clinton Prairie team that finished 2-19 last season.
