Purdue releases non-conference men's basketball schedule

The Purdue athletics department released its men’s basketball non-conference schedule Thursday.

The slate features 10 home games, including two exhibition matchups for the Boilermakers. Purdue’s regular season will begin Nov. 8 against Northern Kentucky.

Matt Painter’s squad will take part in three non-conference events -- The Old Spice Classic, with games in West Lafayette and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.; the Big Ten/ACC Challenge at home; and the Crossroads Classic in Indianapolis.

Based on the end-of-season rankings, the average RPI of the 10 games Purdue is guaranteed to play – it will play some opponents yet to be determined during the Old Spice Classic – is 205. The Boilermakers play five opponents with RPIs of 200 or more and only play one – Butler in the Crossroads Classic – within the top 50.

Purdue will play four teams in 12 days to start the season, with the game against Northern Kentucky and home games against Central Connecticut State on Nov. 13, Rider on Nov. 17 and Eastern Illinois on Nov. 20.

The Boilermakers take on Siena on Nov. 24 in their first Old Spice Classic matchup and will participate in the rest of the tournament from Nov. 28 to Dec. 1.

Purdue’s ACC Challenge opponent, Boston College, will come to West Lafayette on Dec. 4, with Eastern Michigan (Dec. 7) as the Boilermakers’ last opponent before finals.

The Crossroads Classic game against Butler on Dec. 14, a Dec. 17 game against Maryland-Eastern Shore and a showdown in Morgantown, W.Va. with West Virginia will round out the non-conference schedule.

Purdue will also take part in two exhibition games at home -- Indianapolis on Oct. 30 and Wayne State on Nov. 4.
