Statehouse ceremony honors late Gov. Bowen

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Gov. Mike Pence has attended a solemn Statehouse memorial for former Gov. Otis Bowen.

Pence bowed his head in silence Wednesday morning as he stood in the Statehouse Rotunda before a wreath honoring the late governor, who died Saturday at age 95.

An honor guard moved the mounted wreath several feet into position before a platform holding Bowen's state portrait and bust as Pence followed, his right hand resting on the wreath.

Pence made no remarks before signing a condolence book that will be sent to Bowen's family. The public can sign that condolence book today and Thursday at the Statehouse.

Bowen's funeral will be Friday in Bremen. He was governor for eight years beginning in 1973 and was U.S. health and human services secretary under President Reagan.
