My pear trees are blossoming for the first time since I planted them two years ago. I found two small trees that were sort of flat to begin with and have been training and pruning them grow espalier on the backside of my home.
Espalier is when trees and branches are pruned and trained to be on one plane. They're commonly found up against a wall or fence. It is a great way to maximize your growing space.
Because my pear trees are on a south-facing wall of my home, they are also protected from the harsh winter and haves a longer growing season.
Hopefully the blossoms will bear a couple of pears. I'll keep you posted.
