Irish travel to Iowa for Big Ten/ACC Challenge

The Notre Dame men's basketball team will hit the road for its first game in the Big Ten/ACC challenge.

The Irish will play at Iowa on Dec. 3, the conferences announced Wednesday when the pairings were released.

Notre Dame's trip to Carver-Hawkeye Arena will be the first time the Irish have traveled to Iowa since losing to the Hawkeyes 63-60 in 1950. The game will also be the first matchup between the schools since Notre Dame defeated Iowa 77-68 in 1990 at home.

The Irish will join the ACC on July 1 after 18 years in the Big East.

The Challenge games, which pits the 12 Big Ten schools against 12 of 15 ACC schools, will be televised on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. Game times and networks will be announced at a later date.

Notre Dame's game against Iowa is one of three games the Irish have against Big Ten teams this season.

The Irish will also play Indiana on Dec. 14 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse as part of the Crossroad Classic, which also features Purdue playing Butler. Notre Dame will also play Ohio State on Dec. 21 at Madison Square Garden in the one-day Gotham Classic.

The ACC leads the Challenge 10-3-1 after the conferences split last year's series 6-6.
