Former Notre Dame fullback Asaph Schwapp died Wednesday after a year-long battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He was 26.
Schwapp played in 39 games for the Irish from 2005-08. The 6-foot, 257-pounder was used primarily as a blocker and ran for 98 yards on 44 carries and caught eight passes for 62 yards.
Schwapp signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2009, but he was cut before the season starter. He played for the Hartford Colonials in the United Football League in 2010 before his career ended after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament.
