Peoria sweeps anemic ’Caps

Only Gabriel Quintana was able to cross the plate for the TinCaps as lost 4-1 to Peoria on Monday in Peoria, Ill.

The Chiefs completed a three-game sweep.

Quintana was 2 for 4, scoring on a Diego Goris double in the fourth inning to tie the game at 1. But the TinCaps’ rally was short-lived in front of 1,512 fans.

Peoria regained the lead in the bottom of the inning when Patrick Wisdom doubled and then was brought home by Carson Kelly’s single.

Jacob Wilson was 3 for 4 with a double for Peoria. Wisdom, Kelly and Breyvic Valera were all 2 for 4.

Fort Wayne starter Walter Weickel (0-1) went six innings, allowing eight hits but striking out only one.

He was replaced by Christopher Nunn, who allowed two runs – Casey Rasmus scored on a passed ball, and Valera scored on a Wilson single in the seventh inning.

Roman Madrid closed out the game for Fort Wayne (16-13).

Peoria improved to 14-12.

Fort Wayne’s Corey Adamson was 2 for 3, as the TinCaps totaled seven hits, four fewer than Peoria.

The TinCaps struck out 10 times in the game. Brian Adams fanned three times, going 0 for 4, while Jeremy Baltz struck out twice.

Peoria went 3 for 8 with runners in scoring position; Fort Wayne was 1 for 5.

The TinCaps return home Wednesday with an 11:05 a.m. game against Great Lakes.
