MISHAWAKA – A dilapidated Mishawaka apartment complex whose conditions were so poor that city officials evacuated tenants this spring could face the wrecking ball in a matter of weeks.
Building commissioner Bo Hundt tells the South Bend Tribune that the city will seek bids to demolish the Princess City Apartments at its meeting Tuesday. The bids will be opened at a May 21 meeting, and demolition could occur as early as the first week of June.
The apartment complex had a history of code enforcement violations for nearly a decade. The city evacuated its tenants in March after finding water flowing into a mechanical room.
The city will pay the demolition cost but put a lien on the property to recover its costs.
