Indiana rated best in Midwest to do business

No. 5 national ranking same as last year

Chief Executive magazine has ranked Indiana the fifth best place to do business nationwide and the best in the Midwest, state officials announced today.

The list, based on a survey of more than 500 CEOs, is the Greenwich, Conn.-based magazine’s ninth annual compilation. The niche publication asks chief executives to rank states on numerous issues, including regulation, tax policies, workforce quality, educational resources, quality of living and infrastructure.

Texas ranked first for the ninth consecutive year. The remaining top five, in order, are Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee and Indiana. That’s the same order as last year.

One survey participant said, “Indiana is getting more competitive every year and it is boosting the competitiveness of the surrounding states (except for Illinois).” Another said, “Texas, Colorado and Indiana are certainly doing the things in tax and infrastructure to be attractive to business.”

Chief Executive magazine is published bimonthly and has a print circulation of about 40,000.
