GM CEO to speak at Notre Dame business school event

SOUTH BEND – The top executive at General Motors Co. will be the featured speaker for the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business graduate commencement ceremony.

Daniel Akerson is scheduled to speak at the event May 18 at the Joyce Center, when students will be bestowed MBAs, executive MBAs, master of nonprofit administration and master of science in accountancy.

Akerson became chief executive officer of GM in September 2010 and chairman in January 2011. He previously was the managing director and head of global buyout for The Carlyle Group.

He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with a bachelor of science in engineering. Akerson earned a master of science degree in economics from the London School of Economics.
