Power leaves after qualifying mishap
The Associated Press
The incident happened when the reporter working for the local Radio Bandeirantes tried to interview Power as he returned to the garage after team strategy left him 22nd in the grid for the race at the Anhembi street track where he won three straight races.
According to the radio station, Power complained of the reporter after tripping on something, saying that the journalist was on his way and his microphone was too close to his mouth.
A few moments later, when the reporter was on air talking about "how nervous" Power was with what happened, the driver's wife, Liz, came by and said that Power was coming back to talk to him again.
And he did promptly, apologizing.
The reporter asked, "Everything OK?"
"Everything OK," Power replied.
Power and teammate Helio Castroneves dropped out of pole contention when Penske decided to try to take advantage of a faster track in the final minutes of the first qualifying session, but it turned out they never had a chance to post a fast lap after a mechanical problem with the car of James Jakes prompted a red flag. Castroneves will start 18th.
Power hasn't won in 14 races, since his victory last year in Sao Paulo.
