Luers' 400 relay team gridiron stars too

The Bishop Luers' winning 400 relay team at Friday's SAC track meet looked fast and familiar.

The four names are ones football fans have been hearing for years as seniors Jaylon Smith, TyVel Jemison, Andrew Spencer and Charles Gaston have helped Luers bring home four straight Class 2A state football titles.

The Knights' fearsome foursome won the race in 42.91 at Northrop.

Smith, Jemison and Gaston also run on the 1,600 relay team, which finished in third place.

Smith is a Notre Dame football recruit, while Jemison is headed to Purdue to play football.

Smith showed off his speed and strength by running in the 400 and 1,600 relays, while also finishing third in the shot put (47 feet, 5 inches) and eighth in the 400 in 53.64.
