Warsaw guard will be walk-on for IPFW

Warsaw boys basketball coach Doug Ogle confirmed senior Jared Bloom will be a preferred walk-on for the IPFW men’s basketball program.

Ogle said Bloom spoke with Mastodons coach Tony Jasick on Wednesday.

“It will be a challenge for him being a walk-on, but I am confident he can do it,” Ogle said.

Bloom, a 6-foot guard, averaged 18 points last season for the Tigers.

He was named to the Associated Press All-State honorable mention team and participated in the Hoosier Basketball Top 60 workout.

Offensive lineman picks Notre Dame

Notre Dame added a third offensive lineman and ninth oral commitment to its 2014 class Wednesday.

Quenton Nelson, a 6-foot-5, 282-pound offensive tackle from Red Bank (N.J.) Catholic, announced his decision to commit to the Irish on his Twitter account.

Nelson posted: “Officially committed to Notre Dame #GoldenArmy #Irish #BestDay #LetsGo.”

Nelson, a U.S. Army All-American, is rated a four-star prospect by, and 247Sports.

He joins offensive guards Sam Mustipher and Jimmy Byrne as recruits for the line in the Notre Dame’s class of 2014.
