7 schools form consortium for online courses

SOUTH BEND – The University of Notre Dame is joining with six other universities to offer online, for-credit courses.

Northwestern University, Boston College, the University of North Carolina, Brandeis University, Emory University and Washington University in St. Louis are forming Semester Online through the Web platform 2U.

Notre Dame Provost Thomas Burish says the program will provide a high-quality educational experience as rigorous as traditional on-campus instruction. He says the program includes small discussion groups and personal engagement with leading professors with full credit toward a degree.

Classes for the fall include classes in history, political science, business, psychology and literature and film.

Information about all Semester Online courses and the application process is available online at semesteronline.org. The fall application deadline is May 24.
