Then-Denver quarterback Tim Tebow prays in the end zone before the Broncos' regular-season game against New England in 2012.

Tebow: Departure inevitable

So here's the worst part of the day for Tim Tebow, released by the Jets with unseemly haste almost the minute Roger Goodell walked off the stage for the last time at the 2013 NFL Draft:

Some of us (OK, me, at least) were only surprised because we thought the Jets had already released him.

He's been such an obviously disposable commodity now for so long, it really did seem he'd already departed the premises. And when the Jets took West Virginia QB Geno Smith in the second round of the draft, who didn't know Tebow was history?

(And speaking of Smith: Think Mark Sanchez is already Mapquesting directions to the bench? 'Cause, you know, that's where he's headed eventually).

Anyway ... now the question becomes, what becomes of Tebow?

Chicago's the sexy pick, primarily because of Tebow's past mentor/pupil relationship with new Bears coach Marc Trestman. But that would assume Tebow still has a future as an NFL QB -- which, frankly, is problematical at best right now.

What seems more likely is some team with imagination (Patriots? Hello?) picks him up and makes a tight end or an H-back out of him, which is what he should have been all along. Either that, or he heads north to see if some CFL team can use a quarterback with, shall we say, a unique skill set.

I like Door No. 2. Or No. 3.
