Dwenger takes DeKalb tourney

Bishop Dwenger’s Spencer Gillig, a junior, shot a 1-under 71 at Bridgewater West in Auburn, leading the Saints to victory at the DeKalb Invitational.

The Saints combined for a 289, a whopping 38 strokes ahead of the second-place teams, East Noble and Heritage.

Sophomore John Hope and freshman Patrick Allgeier posted 72s for the Saints, and another freshman, Callahan Elzey, had a 74 on Saturday.

East Noble junior Michael Sharp shot a 72. Concordia freshman Cameron Weikart had a 74.

Baseball

NORTHROP 10-10, HOMESTEAD 0-3: The Bruins’ Colin Brockhouse hit a home run and threw a one-hitter in the first game at home. In the second, Joey Filosa struck out 11.

SOUTH SIDE 10-4, HERITAGE 4-14: In Monroeville, South Side’s Garrison Bryan struck out 15 but allowed six hits and three earned runs in a complete game. Heritage took the second game – Dean Lehrman’s 500th victory – led by Jake Bosler’s two hits and six RBI.

Tennis

DEKALB INVITATIONAL: In Waterloo, Bishop Dwenger won with 39 points, led by Leah Stetzel’s victory in No. 1 singles, where she defeated second-place NorthWood’s Emily Hoffman 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 in the finals.
