Huntington County students improve reading rate

Ninety-two percent of the Huntington County Community School Corporation third-graders who took the state's IREAD-3 assessment have passed, up one percent over last year's inaugural test.

Additionally, one hundred percent of the third-graders at Lancaster Elementary passed this year's exam.

IREAD-3 is a statewide assessment that is designed to evaluate third-grade reading skills. Students who do not pass the test can be retained. In some cases, students who do not pass may advance to fourth grade but continue to receive third-grade reading instruction.

Students who did not pass the test will have an opportunity to retake it over the summer. HCCSC teachers are working closely with these students to make sure they are prepared for the test.
