Kiefer at No. 2 singles

IPFW senior Cateriina Kiefer plays at No. 2 singles during Saturday's Summit League tournament at IPFW. The Mastodons won 4-3 and will play in the NCAA tournament.

Women claim Summit tournament title

Sophomore Marcy Huck, one of three players returning from last year's team that lost in the championship match of the Summit League tournament, claimed a three-set victory at No. 6 singles to provide the deciding point in IPFW's 4-3 victory over UMKC on Saturday at the IPFW tennis courts.

Huck, an Anderson native who was home schooled, won the third and deciding set 6-2 over UMKC sophomore Amelie Amsallem to send the Mastodons into the NCAA tournament. Pairings will be released later.

IPFW jumped off to a 1-0 lead when it won the doubles point, then produced the other three necessary points by getting wins from Huck and at Nos. 2 and 4 singles by Caterina Kiefer and Mila Shustova.

UMKC won the men's championship.
