Driver, motorcyclist killed in separate crashes

Two men were killed Monday evening in separate vehicle crashes in northeast Indiana, authorities said.

The first crash occurred about 8 p.m. west of Albion. A 63-year-old Ligonier man was killed and two people were injured, the Noble County Sheriff's Department said.

Willard Kauffman, who was driving a 2010 Chevrolet passenger car, died. Ashley Holt, 24, of Syracuse, who was driving a 1999 Dodge Caravan, suffered neck and back injuries.

She was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center, police said.

Holt's minivan was eastbound on Noble County Road 200 North when it struck Kauffman's car, which was northbound on County Road 900 West and had crossed into Holt's path. Kauffman was killed on impact, police said.

Matthew Landsaw, 32, of Fort Wayne was a passenger in Holt's vehicle and had neck and back injuries.

Another passenger in the same vehicle, Justin Quinn, 29, of Fort Wayne was uninjured.

Later that evening, a second crash killed a motorcyclist in Kosciusko County.

Robert C. Moore, 32, of Warsaw died at the scene, according to Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson and the county crash investigation team.

Deputies and other emergency workers responded at 8:27 p.m. to County Road 350 North, east of County Road 100 East.

Crash investigators reported that Moore had been going west on County Road 350 North on his 2006 Honda, which left the south side of the road and hit a tree.

Moore was thrown across the road on impact and was found by a passing motorist.

The crash remains under investigation, authorities said. Police said Moore was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
