BLOOMINGTON – Authorities arrested 257 people in Bloomington at events surrounding the Little 500 bicycle race, and a porch collapse at a house party hurt five people.
Indiana State Excise Police said Sunday that officers arrested 235 people on 285 charges. Cpl. Travis Thickstun said most of the tickets were alcohol-related but also included drug offenses, indecent exposure and resisting arrest.
The Herald-Times reported that Bloomington and Indiana University police arrested 22 people, including two juveniles, on mostly alcohol-related charges.
Bloomington police also reported that one person was taken to a hospital by ambulance and four other people were treated by medics after falling when the floor of a porch and its steps shifted away from an apartment building Saturday night. Eight to 10 people were on the porch at the time.
Excise officers said Sunday they cited 53 at Purdue University after the Grand Prix cart race, mostly for alcohol-related offenses that included illegal possession or consumption of alcohol and possession of false IDs. Officers charged nine adults with furnishing alcohol to minors. One man was arrested on preliminary charges of felony battery on law enforcement, resisting arrest, illegal possession of alcohol and possession of false ID.
