Laundry-area fire damages Wagner home

A fire in the laundry area of a home on Wagner this afternoon caused heavy smoke damage and moderate fire and wager damage, the Fort Wayne Fire Department said.

No one was injured. An adult escaped the blaze, and two cats and a dog were rescued, firefighters said in a statement.

Firefighters said they were called to 714 Wagner about 1:20 p.m., and found smoke coming from the two-story home, with fire breaking through its rear exterior wall.

The fire was contained to the rear of the home and was controlled in 16 minutes, the statement said.

It said the American Red Cross assisted the occupants of the home, and Fort Wayne police, the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority, American Electric Power and Northern Indiana Public Service Co. assisted firefighters at the scene.
