End of session nigh

The 2013 legislative session has only a few days remaining, though the end date is a bit in the air.

The session is statutorily required to wrap up by midnight on Monday, April 29. Legislative leaders are pushing to end Friday, though likely very late.

GOP House Speaker Brian Bosma said last week that a national firefighter convention starts this week, which means some lawmakers are losing their regular hotel rooms starting Thursday.

To avoid trouble, his staff identified a handful of hotels outside downtown that have rooms for lawmakers. And he stressed the group will be in session Friday, which is usually a day off.

The issues that must be reconciled in the remaining days include a state budget, a gambling bill to aid casinos, several thorny education bills and aid for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
