Huntington jail officer arrested

A Huntington County Sheriff's Department employee was arrested and charged with a felony Friday, according to court records.

Stephen W. McIntyre was charged with class D felony theft in Huntington County Superior Court.

According to court documents, he took money belonging to Dave McVoy. The charging document does not specify how much money was taken.

Court records indicate that Huntington County Superior Court Judge Jeff Heffelfinger recused himself from the case and Huntington Circuit Judge Tom Hakes refused to take it.

Wells County Circuit Judge Kenton Kiracofe is now assigned to handle it, according to court records.

McIntyre is listed on the sheriff department's website as an assistant jail commander and the department's public information officer.

A message left for Sheriff Terry Stoffel was not immediately returned Monday afternoon.

McIntyre served three terms on the Huntington City Council as a Republican beginning on 2000. He lost in 2011 to Democrat Jim Long.
