26 guns dropped off during Gun Amnesty Day

Fort Wayne police collected an assortment of guns and ammunition Saturday in an effort to make the city safer.

Over the course of the day, people dropped off a total of 26 guns in the parking lot of the Fort Wayne Urban League, police said.

Officer James King said revolvers and shotguns, some with modified stocks and barrels, were among the guns received.

The people who brought in guns Saturday, during what was called Gun Amnesty Day, were able to do so anonymously.

Police will check to see if the guns were stolen or used in a crime, and if not, they will be destroyed, King said.
