Report: Big Ten realignment will separate IU, Purdue

With Maryland and Rutgers set to join the conference, the Big Ten will announce a geographical realignment, ESPN.com is reporting.

The geographical divisions, per the report, will be as follows:

East

  • Indiana
  • Maryland
  • Rutgers
  • Penn State
  • Michigan
  • Michigan State
  • Ohio State
West

  • Minnesota
  • Nebraska
  • Northwestern
  • Illinois
  • Purdue
  • Wisconsin
  • Iowa
The proposed split will put the Hoosiers and Boilermakers in separate divisions, but it will be a preserved inter-divisional rivalry game, per ESPN. The realignment will take place after the 2013 season.
