Tuesday night began with a 53-minute rain delay at Parkview Field and ended with more showers, but it may take more than rain to wash away the memories of the TinCaps' 5-1 loss to Great Lakes.

Bumpy road for TinCaps

– Fort Wayne struggled on the mound, at the plate and in the field in a 3-2 loss to the South Bend Silver Hawks on Tuesday.

The TinCaps (6-5) gave up nine hits, while their typically potent offense was limited to two.

A club that’s been error-free for most of the season committed two Tuesday, including a wild pitch by Christopher Nunn in the bottom of the eighth inning that scored the decisive run.

The loss against the Silver Hawks (7-2) was Fort Wayne’s fourth straight on the road.

Erik Cabrera went five innings for the TinCaps, striking out six and giving up four hits and one unearned run. Fort Wayne struck out 14 times in the loss and went 2 for 27 at the plate.

Christopher Capper got the win, and RJ Hively the save for South Bend.

Note: The TinCaps also made roster moves Tuesday, with relief pitcher Tayron Guererro heading to the disabled list. John Hussey, a 26-year-old righty, has been called from extended spring training to take Guererro’s spot on the roster.
