Tree City USA honors announced

FORT WAYNE – More than a dozen northeast Indiana communities have been recognized as a Tree City USA by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry "for outstanding management of their urban forests."

Three also received the Growth Award, which exemplifies a higher standard of excellence for urban forestry management. They are Decatur, Fort Wayne and Syracuse.

The others are Angola, Auburn, Berne, Columbia City, Fremont, Huntington, Kendallville, Nappanee, New Haven and North Manchester, according to a statement issued by the state forester.

Sixty-five cities and towns in the state earned the honor this year.
