Mystics invite Mingo for training camp

Purdue forward Drey Mingo has accepted an invitation to training camp with the WNBA's Washington Mystics.

After battling injuries throughout a six-year career with the Boilermakers, Mingo put together a season worthy of Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America honors. She was not selected in Monday's WNBA draft, but the 6-foot-2 post player received two training camp invitations and took the offer from the Mystics.

"I'm incredibly honored and excited for the chance to pursue my dream of playing in the WNBA," Mingo said in a statement. "And I would like to thank the Mystics for giving me the opportunity to be a part of their organization."

Mingo averaged 12.2 points and six rebounds per game in her final season at Purdue while guiding the team to a 25-9 record and the second round of the NCAA tournament. She will sign a rookie contract and join the team for camp May 5.

The Mystics, who went 5-29 last season, will cut their roster to 11 by the start of the regular season. Mingo will compete with three Washington draft selections, among other players, for a spot on the squad.
