New voice for NBC's Notre Dame broadcasts

Notre Dame football will have a new voice calling the action.

Dan Hicks was named the play-by-play announcer for NBC's broadcasts of the Irish's games, the network announced Monday.

Hicks will replace Tom Hammond, who had called Notre Dame's games since 1992. Hicks had replaced Hammond on one Notre Dame game each of the last two seasons.

Hicks joins analyst Mike Mayock and sideline reporter Alex Flanagan for Irish games. He will begin his play-by-play duties Saturday for NBC Sports broadcast of Notre Dame's Blue-Gold game.

Along with his Notre Dame duties, Hicks will continue to be NBC's lead commentator for the network's golf coverage and will be part of NBC's Olympic coverage.

Hammond will remain with NBC, calling Triple Crown horse racing, figure skating and track and field at the Olympics.
