Mad Ants bounced from playoffs

The Mad Ants first trip to the D-League playoffs ended after two games.

Fort Wayne fell 110-92 to the Santa Cruz Warriors on Saturday night in Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz, Calif.

The Ants (27-25) went into halftime trailing the Warriors 52-47, and they cut their deficit 52-49 with a pair of Anthony Richardson free throws in the opening seconds of the third quarter.

But Santa Cruz (34-18) pulled away with a 14-0 run to take a 66-49 lead with 8:38 to play in the third, and Fort Wayne could never fully recover.

The Ants were able to cut the deficit to 82-73 with 35.3 seconds to play in the third on a layup by Ron Howard.

But the Warriors went on 13-0 run the started with a dunk by Lance Goulbourne with 25.2 seconds left in the third and ended with Jeremy Tyler knocking downing a pair of free throws with 9:42 left to play to give Santa Cruz a 95-73 lead.

Howard led the Ants with 25 points, and Tony Mitchell added 20. Brandon Wallace had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for Fort Wayne, which shot 37.1 percent (33 of 89) from the field and 25 percent (5 of 20) on three-pointers.

The Warriors, who won the series opener 124-118 Wednesday in Fort Wayne, had six players score in double figures, led by Tyler's 25 points. He also had 11 rebounds.

Hilton Armstrong and Taylor Griffin also had double-doubles with Armstrong getting 17 points and 10 rebounds and Griffin adding 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Stefhon Hannah had 16 points, and Darington Hobson and Travis Leslie added 15 and 10 for the Warriors, who shot 45.9 percent (39 of 85) from the floor and 31.6 percent (6 of 19) on three-pointers.
